PvZ Hybrid now comes in two editions, and the names confuse a lot of players. Classic (version 3.x, currently 3.18) is the original mod that went viral. Remake (version 0.x, currently 0.30) is a newer, rebuilt edition that also runs on Android. Both are free fan projects by Bilibili creator 潜艇伟伟迷. Here is how they differ and which one you should play.
Quick answer
- On Android? Play Remake. Classic has no Android version.
- New to PvZ Hybrid? Start with Remake 0.30. It is updated most often.
- Want the original viral mod or following an older guide? Play Classic 3.18 on PC.
- Can’t decide on PC? Install both. They don’t conflict.

Why are the version numbers so different?
Classic started first and reached the 3.x series. When the creator rebuilt the game as the Remake, numbering restarted in the 0.x range. The two lines are independent, so 3.18 is not newer than 0.30; in fact 0.30 came out about two and a half months after 3.18. Compare versions only within the same edition: Remake 0.29 → 0.30, Classic 3.17 → 3.18.
Remake in detail
The Remake rebuilds the hybrid concept from scratch, which is why it can run natively on Android and avoid many compatibility problems the original game has on modern Windows. Its 2026 updates have added chapters in quick succession:
- 0.26–0.27: Experimental Base, skins and a boss health bar.
- 0.28: Riverside Lawn maps, plant challenges and a better Daily Challenge, with a smaller package.
- 0.29: Magic Garden Part I, 10 white-card plants, the Sealing Shovel and MOD levels.
- 0.30: Magic Garden pool maps, stages 10-11 to 10-20, 10 plants, 10 zombies and sandbox battles.
Pros: Android support, rapid updates, Level Editor, sandbox testing. Cons: fast updates mean translations and guides go out of date quickly.
Classic in detail
Classic is the edition that made PvZ Hybrid famous: the original game modified to fuse plants and zombies. It keeps the familiar look of Plants vs. Zombies with a very large hybrid roster built up over many releases. Version 3.18 expanded the roster and the Space-Time Secret Realm and brought balance and bug fixes.
Pros: the original experience, deep content, most older videos and guides use it. Cons: Windows only, slower updates, and as a mod of a 2009 game it can need extra tweaks on some PCs (like setting a Chinese system locale for text).
Saves, translations and guides

- Saves don’t transfer between Remake and Classic. They use separate save data.
- Translations are edition- and version-specific. A Classic 3.18 pack won’t work on Remake, and a Remake 0.29 pack may not work on 0.30. See the English guide.
- Check which edition a guide uses before following it. Screenshots of the classic 2009-style menu usually mean Classic.
Which is harder?
Both get hard. Classic’s challenge modes are known for brutal late stages built up over many versions. The Remake ramps up chapter by chapter, and its newest stages (10-11 to 10-20 in Magic Garden) add pool lanes and new zombies. If you want a gentler learning curve, the Remake’s sandbox battles let you practise match-ups before a real level.
Performance and devices
Both editions are light by modern standards. The Remake is a 64-bit Godot program on PC, so it needs 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, and its Android build runs on most phones from the last few years. Classic inherits the very low hardware needs of the 2009 game, but because it modifies an old program it is more likely to need small fixes on modern systems, such as display scaling or locale settings. On a low-end laptop either will run; on a phone, the Remake is your only official option.
Our recommendation
For most players in late 2026, Remake 0.30 is the best starting point: it runs on phones and PCs, gets regular content, and has the Level Editor. Keep Classic 3.18 on your PC if you love the original or want to play through its long-established content. Since both are free and install separately, there is no reason not to try both.
Release pace

Remake has been updating fast: 0.26 (16 Aug), 0.27 (29 Aug), 0.28 (12 Sep), 0.29 (25 Sep), 0.30 (10 Oct) and 0.31 (23 Oct 2026). That’s about one update every 2 weeks. Classic updates less often: 3.18 came out on 25 July and 3.19 on 21 September 2026.
Mods and community content
Remake now has official mod support. From 0.31, mods need a valid mod.json with author, modid and version fields, and community features have been added to the game itself. Classic modding depends on third-party tools and translation patches.
